    Netflix has been overshadowed recently due to the rise of other streaming platforms like Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu to name a few and have been struggling to come out with new exciting content, so I agree with Ines, it is a great idea for them to get into gaming and broaden its offering now more than ever. Netflix has predicted a weak subscriber growth for the first quarter of 2022 in late January 2022, it seems late arrivals of exciting content like season 2 of Bridgerton didn’t help.

    Building on Ines’ point with Netflix having an advantage over having themes for its games, I would also say it also has the audience as Stranger Things is incredibly popular on Netflix (although I confess I haven’t seen it!)

    Netflix’s announcement of the acquisition of Next Games corresponds with Netflix’s statement in January 2022 that it aims to be the “absolute best” gaming service in the industry by expanding into this area further in 2022. I am very much a Netflix fan and I hope it does beat its rivals!

    Whilst I would agree with Peter’s point in the Daily today that some companies will be swayed by the convenience of online events, I think companies will be increasingly likely to adopt a hybrid approach in the attempt to be more inclusive. As a result, I think increase in business event bookings will help the travel industry bounce back to its feet. Particularly if aims of business events is to impress clients hosting them online for the sake of convenience may not be enough anymore.

    Being a loyal Netflix customer I want to keep believing in Netflix. Although Netflix will keep spending a significant amount on new content, I see the future of Netflix as eventually merging with another content provider (if the regulators allow this) to pool their resources together and get a larger market share. Another possible avenue is diversification – strengthening its existing gaming service, which will see more games added in 2022 or investing into the future of interactive entertainment, another player for the Metaverse?

    However, at the moment it looks like Amazon Prime Video will prevail. Amazon has very deep pockets, so it can keep investing in quality content and existing customers are unlikely to cancel their Prime memberships if they are dissatisfied with the content as there are many benefits to an Amazon membership.

    Hi Andrew! From my point of view being commercially aware is as you said keeping on top of news stories as a seating point. Secondly, forming an opinion on those stories. This is important – I find that I can only form informed opinions on pieces of news that I find interesting or where I have followed the new story into an emerging trend. This makes it easier for me to have an opinion on what is to come for that emerging trend. Lastly, when it comes to commercial law firms, they will want to know how business stories will affect their clients, sectors and practice groups. Being commercially aware also means knowing how the business world works in general and being able to apply it to fictitious scenarios during case study exercises etc 🙂 I hope this helps somewhat!

    Thank you both Andrew and Peter for your comprehensive answers!

    Andrew, I agree that sector specific notes would be helpful, I will try this out! The new ‘notes’ feature on the browser version of Watson’s Daily will help with this, but I have to be consistent. Going forwards I will note down developments in the corresponding trends that come up within Watson’s Daily inthe notes section, and make a working Word document.The same goes for specifically targeted Google alerts like you both mentioned.

    Thank you Peter for acknowledging my belt! I am still working towards the brown one, I have a habit of looking at Watson’s Daily on my phone instead of the browser, so I need to make sure I am registering all my points by accessing the browser! I agree regarding the consistency and volume. What I found particularly helped me remember stories has been exposure to the same stories via different mediums – I first read the Daily, then I listen to the podcast whilst walking my dog, then I attend the weekly subscriber call and then listen to the weekly podcast and read the weekly which help me remember the important stories.

    I think (and hope) that Bumper will succeed in the long run!

    I think that dividing up the cost of car repairs will attract young (under 30 years old) car owners to use the app. As car repairs are a cost that can come unexpected to consumers and often is outside of their monthly budgets many people who cannot afford the upfront cost can become frequent users of the app.

    Repairing your car is often a necessity, so I view Bumper differently than Klarna, whose consumers pay in instalments predominantly for clothes that they might not need. I don’t see consumers getting into debt in the same way as you would with Klarna, where you could buy a lot of expensive clothes in one go if you wanted to. With car repairs, you will only pay for the repairs that are identified to get your car working again. 🙂

    As long as customers pay back the money owed and Bumper grows its user base I think it should be successful. I think Porsche and Jaguar Land Rover are the right companies to have invested in it because they will know the car market better than generalist Klarna or Afterpay! The Omicron variant might drive consumers to repair their existing second-hand cars as they wouldn’t want to buy a new one with the current astronomical prices (although the car parts aren’t cheap either!). Overall though, I do think they are set up for long term success.

    I agree with you Peter that it will be a Merry Christmas (as long as supply chains allow). I think the closer we get to Christmas, and the more we hear a message that there is a shortage of some type of food (especially Christmas staples like brie) it will cause panic as people will want to go all out this Christmas. Last year only three families could meet as part of the restrictions in some areas of England, in others you only had to stay within the bubble of people you live with. In January people will realise how much more money they spent than a typical year and will reign in their spending.

    I use Signal as a replacement for WhatsApp sometimes. Some people I know moved away from WhatsApp after they have updated their privacy policy and Signal collects almost no personal details in comparison.

    I don’t think they will suffer on a long term basis as Facebook is always under fire for one reason or another and always bounces back due to its large user base as Jamie has said. If you don’t have Facebook you will most likely have WhatsApp or Instagram. I think most people have forgotten about the recent criticism of Facebook already over the suspension of Instagram Kids, which happened only one week ago…
